Ortom Denies Existence Of Armed Militia

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom says news reports insinuating that some youths arrested by the military at Arufu, a town between Benue and Taraba states were sponsored by an armed militia in Benue state to defend it’s territory against invaders are untrue.
In a statement in Makurdi, the state governor said  he has not recruited any militia group since he assumed office
Ortom said his disarmament policy brought an amnesty programme that recovered 700 arms and ammunition with over 800 youths laying down their weapons across the state.
He said the state government maintains its position on the use of conventional security agencies to protect its people and a commitment to bring to an end the incessant killings and restore peace in affected areas.
